South Indian breakfasts are one of the healthiest breakfast, easily available (thanks to MTR and Tops for it instant mix formulas) and light on stomach.  Idli is one of most popular South-Indian Breakfast prepared with instant mix formula, urad dal and rice to make batter. It goes very well with sambhar and coconut chutney. Idli can also be looked as replacement to any of your routine meal, in case you have less time to cook and need something easily digestible.
So let’s begin to prepare:

Idli batter Ingredients:
½ cup urad dal
1 cup rice

Salt as per your taste

Kitchen utensils required:
  • 1 Spatula (I prefer: PINDIA Wooden Curved Spoons)
  • 5 bowls (I prefer: Borosil Mixing Bowl)
  • 1 Mixer-grinder( I prefer: Prestige Hero 550- Watt Mixer Grinder)

  • 1 Idli maker cooker( I prefer: Pigeon Hot 16 Idly Pot with Steamer)
  • 1 Water jug

                                           Step by step procedure:

Step-1 Take bowl, add urad dal, water. Soak it for 6-7 hours.

Step-2 Now take another bowl, add rice, water. Soak it for 6-7 hours

Step-3 Now add both together and put it in a grinder, Make fine paste out of it.

Step-4 Transfer the paste in a big bowl. Keep aside that bowl at hot place for 6 hours.

Step-5 Now take idli cooker and add water in it. Heat the cooker and let water to boil.

Step-6 Grease idli tray.

Step-7 Add salt, eno and then mix it very well. Now quickly put idli mix in a idli tray mold and then keep the tray in cooker. Cover the lid and let it cook for 8-10 minutes on medium flame then cook it again for 5 minutes on low flame.

When done, take it out from mold and serve it with nariyal chutney.

Tips:

  • Add eno at the time when you are ready to put idli mix in a idli mold.

  • You can use microwave to cook idli.
