“Aloo Thanda masala” gravy Recipe

Recipe Type: Lunch/DinnerRecipe Cuisine: Indian
Preparation Time: 2-3 minsCooking time: 40 mins | serves: 2-3

Aloo “thanda” masala is something which is easy, very spicy and tasty recipe. This recipe is very old and now it is prepared in very smaller part of northern Indian from where I belong. My family loves to eat this recipe with plane rice. This thanda masala name is given because taseer of this recipe is cold and after having this recipe, your stomach feels cold. Masala used in this recipe is just awesome and perfect dish as a replacement for any regular sabzi. One thing you have to take care about this recipe is that coriander seed and mustard seed MUST be in exactly equal quantity…i.e. is any of the two goes off in proportion, you would not get the real taste. If you have done this step than you are half winner in this dish...rest left is to cook the masala properly and serve it….so have a look on the recipe.

Ingredients:
2-3 potatoes  (boiled)
1 large onion
1 small tomato
1 teaspoon mango powder
1 cup water
Salt as per your taste

Thanda Masala Ingredients:
2 small teaspoon coriander seeds
2 small teaspoon mustard seed(rai)
5-6 Black Pepper seeds
8-9 garlic clove
3-4 red chili
1 teaspoon turmeric powder

Kitchen utensils required:
  • 1 non-stick pan (I prefer: Vinod Zest Non- Stick Friendly Pan)
  • 1 Spatula (I prefer: PINDIA Wooden Curved Spoons)
  • 10 bowls (I prefer: Borosil Mixing Bowl)
  • 1 Mixer-grinder( I prefer: Prestige Hero 550- Watt Mixer Grinder)
  • 1 cooker (I prefer: Prestige Popular Aluminum Pressure Cooker, 3 Liters)
  • 1 water jug

Step by step procedure:

Step-1 Heat the deep fry pan, add oil, add finely chopped onion and fry it.

Step-2   In a grinder, grind all the thanda masala ingredients and make fine paste out of it. Now add paste, chopped tomato  to onion and mix everything well. Now cover pan with lid and cook masala at low flame.

Step-3 Boil potatoes in a cooker, then cut boiled potatoes into small pieces and add it to pan and cook it for 1 minute with masala.

Step-4 Add salt, mango powder and water to it. Mix everything well and cover pan with lid and cook it on medium flame for 3-4 minutes.
Garnish it with finely chopped soya leaves.

 Enjoy it with plain rice…….!!

Tips:
  • Take coriander seeds and rai in equal ratio for perfect taste of masala.
  • Don't add too much water for gravy.
